Crime Prevention Association of Nigeria (CPAN) serves as the secretariat for Operation Peace of Mind (OPM)Nigerian-AmericanCenterfor Peace and Development, in preventing crime in Nigeria. The Crime Prevention Association of Nigeria is modeled after the American National Crime Prevention Council (USA-NCPC) which is the Secretariat of Crime Prevention Coalition of America (CPCA). The NCPC is the leading non-profit organization in the United States of America on crime prevention. OPM is a member of the Crime Prevention Coalition of America.
The Mission of CPAN:
To mobilize a grass-roots effort for the prevention of crime in Nigeria by offering our youth an alternative lifestyle to committing crime.
When a crime is committed, no matter how serious, the community suffers. It affects businesses and investments that create jobs. Crime affects community social life and puts fear into the minds of citizens forcing them to retreat from their daily activities and hide behind iron rods and locked doors. It makes children fear going to school and victims suffer financial losses and most often loss of life. CPAN believes that the responsibility of fighting crime in Nigeria rests upon individuals, communities, public, private entities and government. CPAN helps Nigerian citizens learn how to protect themselves, loved ones, and their communities. We work with community leaders, private sector, government and non-government organizations to educate and facilitate the building of crime-free communities which creates a positive atmosphere for foreign investment and stronger economic development.
